There are often times when some of my friends will inform me of an indie band. Often they will use the words "Revolutionary" or "Creative" or something of the like. That is often code for "Couldn't afford proper equipment" or "It's just noise". Truth be told there aren't many "indie" bands that I've ever really taken a liking to. Being a big fan of pop music often meant that I missed the sickly-sweet production & harmonies. I was often bored by them.
Anyways, about a year ago I found "The Donnies The Amys", an indie-pop/alternative duo from LA, with their buzz single at the time "Boxer + Clover" & I was intrigued. I instantly jumped on iTunes, bought their album & haven't looked back since. The album has a very raw sound, whilst keeping plenty of pop sensibilities, and I love that! So, I got in contact with Donnie a few weeks back, and he was kind enough to answer some questions for us, so that you can get to know the band a little better! So, here we go!
Hey guys, could you us a bit about who you are and what you do?
"We are a little two piece band (Amy on drums, Donnie on vocals and keys) and we play indie pop music. We live and work and make music in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles."
How would you describe your sound?
"Well, it's mostly Wurlitzer and drums. I've heard comparisons to Coldplay and The Fray, but you know. I think we're a little more indie than that (as in, less successful)."
So, what can people expect if they come down to one of your shows?
"It's just the two of us live, and most people tell us how the sound seems big even though there's only two of us. Amy is really fun to watch playing drums. Donnie mainly makes an ass of himself when he's not playing really sincere songs."
What can people expect from your debut album?
"The album has a very special place in my heart. It's very DIY, and we left in a lot of the rough edges. It was very fun to record. We're working on a second album now."
What's your favorite song off the album?
"Um, at the moment... Don't Do Drugs."
And finally where can your fans (or new fans) find you? (social networks/tours etc.)
We'd like to thank Donnie for answering these questions.
