So, we have a special treat for you Popshade readers today. We have an interview with Mikel, an member of highly successful Spanish boyband "DNash", probably best known for representing Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2007.
Well, Mikel has decided to do a bit of solo work considering that DNash are having a bit of a break, and he was kind enough to answer some questions for us, so that you can get to know him a little bit better. How kind is he? Here we go!
Hey Mikel, could you tell us a bit about who you are and what you do?
My name is Michael Hennet Sotomayor, although people know me as Mikel Hennet. I'm 29 years old and I was born in Tenerife, the Canary Islands. I have been doing musicals since I was 6, in two of the best English speaking theatrical groups in the Islands. I studied Media with Cultural Studies in Southampton University, and after graduation I landed in Madrid. There I formed a group called DNash with some friends and have been touring since then, all around Spain, Europe, Mexico and Miami. We did the Eurovision Song Contest representing Spain in 2007 and have released 5 albums. Now we have made a little break, so we can do other things. I never thought of doing music by myself, but hey, I'm up for anything that keeps my heart pumping.
How would you describe your sound?
I think even though I have been professionally performing for 8 years I am still looking for a sound thats describes me. I think I will never stop learning. I enjoy singing all kinds of music, especially English songs - I enjoy singing in English. Sounds better! Hahaaha.
Who would you compare yourself to in the industry right now?
It's quite difficult, I must say, comparing myself to someone I admire, but a lot of people say that my voice sounds like Michael Buble with a hint of rock.
So, what can people expect if they come down to one of your shows?
I enjoy the stage 100%, as if it was the first time I was on it. I think people feel that. It's all about respecting where you are, who you are and who you are with. I always leave a piece of me on stage. If you like good music, taste and elegance, you wouldn't want to miss it.
What's your favourite song you have written?
Any of the songs of my last album, called Garabatos. If I had to choose, I would say La Soledad, Decir Adios and a song we did in Mexico, called Momentos, for a TV series.
And finally where can your fans (or new fans) find you?
Please come to The Roof Gardens in London on 22nd Feb 2013. It will be an amazing night. I have the pleasure to sing with 3 other big artists. Come and join us. More info and ticket information can be found at www.liveandlovemusic.com
There we go!
Truth be told, I feel like I'm talking to pop royalty here considering he's graced the Eurovision stage. But, you should check him out at his London show on the 22nd! I'll be down there, and I'm sure it'll be a great night! So, to thank Mikel for answering these questions, I think you should go and buy a ticket ;)!
