A late night scroll through YouTube brought us to BRYCE's debut music video. Despite being sleep deprived, the second we heard 'Burning Out' we were on a JAM.
The Dallas native has got quite the knack for writing a catchy melody, and wrapping it up in some of the slickest all round productions we've heard. We grabbed her for a quick chat, here's what she had to say...
Hey Bryce, thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at Popshade. To peeps who haven’t heard ya before, what’s three words that sum up your music best?
Vibey. Fun. and feel-good. (It was between these words and DANCE PARTY EXTRAVAGANZA. I chose the first set.)
We freakin’ love ‘Burning Out’, how did the song come about?
This song probably means the most to me on the record. It has a few meanings (some I will leave up to you to interpret), but the main one for me was very literal: my apartment burned down while I was asleep. For me, it's the journey of overcoming that as well as overcoming some other relational obstacles that came along with it.
And the video, we love the mood and how it perfectly fits the song. Was it a fun experience to film?
Thank you so much! It was an absolute blast to film. The producer who filmed it (Clara Ard) is one of my best friends. She captured my exact vision for that video even better than I could have ever seen it in my head. It basically just ended up being us getting to spend a lot of time together making dumb jokes, driving around looking for locations, and just laughing our heads off. But the final product is something I am extremely proud of.
And, peeps can also find the single on your sweet new EP. What’ your fav track off it?
That ones tough! I would have to go with 'Words That You Said.' It's one of the more honest tracks I have written.
You’ve already played shows with some pretty awesome peeps. Including Craig Owens (say whaaaaat?!), who would be the dream artist to tour with?
I could definitely name off about fifty, but I would have to go with Oh Wonder right now. They're such incredible musicians and I would be lying if I said I haven't had their album on repeat for the past few months. Actually, I'm listening to it right this minute.
Speaking of tour, would you rather play to massive crowds in arenas every night, or those packed out intimate shows?
Well, I would never turn down an offer to play for massive arena crowds, haha but I love the intimate setting. I am such a people person. I love being able to see the faces in the crowds. I love being able to hang out with the people after the show and shake their hands and personally thank them for coming. I just want people who come out to a show to know how much I truly appreciate their support, so if a hug or high five helps with that I am all for it.
One of our favourite things was seeing how happy you were about being played in H&M around the US. How surreal was that?
Holy moly. I was walking down the street with my best friend when someone sent me a video of it being played in the store. I can't explain to you that feeling. All I could do was jump up and down (You don't think people actually do that in real life, but it happened). I already have a pretty massive smile, but that day I'm pretty sure half my face was just teeth.
We’re a pop site, so we have to ask - who is your favourite pop artist of all time?
I am a HUGE Lorde fan. I am impatiently awaiting any new music from her. Fingers crossed for something soon! Who can resist her song 'Ribs'? can I get an Amen?
And, what’s one pop song you’re loving right now?
The past couple weeks I have had 'Inside Out' by The Chainsmokers on repeat. That's a jam right there.
We'd like to thank Bryce for taking the time to answer these questions!
A 'dance party extravaganza' sounds like everything we live for. And Bryce does a pretty damn good job at creating that vibe. What do you think? Are you loving 'Burning Out' as much as us?
Make sure ya go and follow her on all those social links above, and go cop her awesome EP HERE.
