"Bubblegum Pop". A strange phrase in the pop industry, but most of us seem to know what it means. This next act that I'm going to introduce to you, definitely fit into that phrase. They go by the name of The SoapGirls, and they're two sisters who make catchy, upbeat pop, with plenty of glamour on top.
They have a massive following back in their home of Africa, and now they're ready to take on the world. They've teased two bloody amazing singles from their upcoming album, and at this rate, you'll be hearing them all over the radio by the end of this week. We had a chat with Millie and Mie, and they had plenty of lovely things to say...
Hey girls, thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at Popshade! Why don't you start by telling us a bit about who you are and what you do?
Hey!! We are Mille and Mie, two sisters who are like ying and yang, best friends and soul twins. We are singer/songwriters with a quirky sense of humor and we express ourselves through our music!! Our journey has been a long one and started out as 8/9 years old street performers selling our hadmade soap hence our nameJJ We are huge humanitarians and believe in making life count not just for yourself but others. Our family is everything to us and we work very closely as a team with our mum (our mentor/manager) and we have a little brother Redd-Valentino, who will be coming along on this exciting next level of our journey. We are xtremely passionate about our music and life and we live life for the moments and the truths its brings.
You've spent a while building your careers in South Africa, what makes now the time to reach for the World stage?
Millie: We would LOVE for our music to be enjoyed all around the world! We’ve been actively waiting to perform across the globe, and there is no time like the present!
Mie: Well we think everything in life happens when it’s supposed to and right now is our time.We cannot wait to share our music with the rest of the world!
We love the two singles you've just released! But which ones your favourite and why?
We love both singles but “Looking for Love” was more personal to us because it was written from personal experience about the most precious person in the world to us our mum/manager and it’s a song with a very strong message. We think many people will relate to the story of the song, it has a very deep rooted place in our hearts.
We love your style of punchy, catchy and feel-good pop. It just makes us smile! Is that your intention
You saying that just makes us smile! We write songs and perform always from the heart whether it’s something we’ve gone through or someone close to us we always make sure that it’s something we can relate to and when people say it changed their mood, made them happy or sad we think that’s the biggest compliment to any artist !! Then you know your music touches people.
You've got a very broad range of influences girls, but who would be the one artist you'd love to share a stage with and why?
Millie: What a horrific question. Do you have any idea how difficult that is to answer? If I had to choose one artist it would have to be Gwen Stefani!!
Mie: Gosh!!That’s a tough one there are soo many!! If I had to choose one then it would have to be Madonna because she’s such an exciting artist you never know what she’s gonna do next and hey wouldn’t that be awesome three blondes on stage! Plus she’d definetly pay for an awesome stage setup (LOL)
So, we've heard two brilliant little sneak peaks, but what can we expect from your debut US release?
Expect the unexpected, its unique original music, we’ve got a quirky mix from pop reggae to pop r’n b, every track is different whilst still fitting with the rest of the album!
A kickass masterpiece! PS one of the songs we wrote on the album is called Hard To Dance (it will be our 3rd single ) we cant wait for this song to be released because we feel its a song that defines not just our journey but that of millions of people around the world)
What can people expect if they come down to your shows?
People coming to our shows can expect to have an explosive time of their livesJJ great music and heart stopping performances!!We absolutely love performing its one of our best parts of who we are and what we do and this transcends into our performances. There is a magic that cannot be described when we are performing to audiences a bond thats created and moments that become a personal connection for us to people in the crowd and thus we hope that people who come to our shows will walk away with a feeling that they got to really connect with us and our music.
What are your plans for World domination in 2014?
Millie: We plan on starting out from the USA and working our way to Canada, Europe, Japan, we want our music playing around the globe and to perform in every country possible!
Mie: Would a clever conqueror divulge their plans to take over.....I don’t think so hahaha (insert evil laugh here)
Finally, where can people find you?

We are flying to NYC to shoot the video for “Lie to Me” and we’ll be touring from February so keep checking facebook for tour dates etc in the upcoming weeks.
