Ever so often in the music industry, you come across something completely different, that just works. That is really the only way that I can introduce this next act to you. They go by the name of O.C.A.D and they make an interesting mix of pop, self-aware hip-hop and everything inbetween.
They are one of my favourite things to come out of the music industry in recent years, and they have just released a new killer pop smash named "Too Much". They were kind enough to sit down with us and answer some very in depth questions, so let's see what they had to say...
Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at Popshade! Why don't you tell us a bit about who you are and what you do?
Thank you for having us, we greatly appreciate it. Our name is O.C.A.D., which is an acronym of our names, Olivia Cipolla & Arie Dixon. We are a recording Duo, just signed with Tommy Boy Ent. Our videos "Muse" and "Too Much", were recently released on VEVO, and they are both on iTunes, with our 1st debut album "The Truth".
You're both very talented stars in your own right, but what brought you together for O.C.A.D?
Well, O.C.A.D. started almost by an accident. We were originally just supporting one another, on each other's music. Arie was producing for Olivia's music, Olivia was singing on Arie's music, but after a while we just decided to finally collaborate on a body of work. Which is where "The Truth Album" comes into play. We actually created that album, and released it before we even had a group name. We didnt have much of an idea of what we were embarking on, all we knew is that it was organic, it felt right, and it was cool to us. From there on out the rest is history, "Muse" began to gain traction with dancers and choreographers around the world.
How would you describe your music to those unfamiliar with it
This question seems to come up a lot in various ways, and we still have no complete idea, only because we are constantly evolving. If you take a moment to listen to The Truth Album, you'll see that its a melting pot of sounds from, Hip Hop, Pop, Classical, Theatrical, Alternative, RnB, with lyrics that are speaking on issues not too many people are talking about. But the best way to describe our sound is Hip Hop/Pop. The fusion, and our eclectic palid of sounds and influences that we both bring to the table, almost call for our music to be in a lane of its own. But we will let the people decide what the sound of our music should be called, we just create it, with out a clue of what we are doing exactly. We just hop in the studio, and the rest is us just feeling.
We love "Too Much", it's a killer tune that just makes us want to shake everything! But, what does the song mean to you?
Thank you so much, just want to say we are happy that you enjoy it, because we had a great time creating it. "Too Much" means a few different things to us, for starters its dedicated to all the women, all shapes and sizes, to just embrace your body, and dont let society dictate how you should look, feel, dress, etc. Your life fits you like a glove, love it and own it. Its also dedicated to the men who enjoy a real woman, with curves, and a body. Because we dont know too many males out there who dont want a real woman, with curves, and a body.
The video for "Too Much" has certainly attracted the song a lot of attention. Was it fun to film?
It was such a good time to film "Too Much". The energy that Abdulai Sesay (Director), Angel Felciano (DP), Dana Foglia (Choregrapher) and the dancers, Arlene Leilani (Make Up Artist), Jasmin "NovaBrown" (Stylist) all brought that day, to help bring our vision for the video together was amazing. Its so important to work with people that you not only respect and admire, but that also bring great energy to the set.
Disregarding over-excited teenage boys, the comment section seems to have girls embracing the message behind the song! "Too Much" has made girls love their bodies again! Are you proud of this?
We are so proud of this, we really believe that every girl and boy, should be proud of who they are, and what they have to offer the world. We are in a society that strips that confidence away from us, and we would love to help instill that back into people.
So, what would you say to girls with "Too much booty in the pants?"
Embrace it....You are beautiful the way you are. We know its hard to find pants that compliment your body type, hahahaha, but live your life!
The album "The Truth" is so diverse and unique, but what can a new listener expect from the album?
When we were creating The Truth Album, the main thing that we had in mind was to talk about subject matters, that are going on around the world on a daily basis, that people just arent talking about in their music. But mixed in with that you will find a lot of influences fused together, from Hip Hop, Pop, Alternative, RnB, Classical, Bass Music, Theater. You can expect to hear something that you have never heard before in your life, and that We can guarantee, or your money back hahahahaha.
What can we expect from you in the future?
You can expect more music videos to come from us, you can also expect some FREE MUSIC coming out soon, as we work on our our Next Body of Work that we are calling "Sex, Love, & Fear".
And finally, where can your new fans find you?
We have a few shows coming up soon in the NYC area, but to keep up with whats latest from us you can get connected with us on...
I'd like to thank O.C.A.D for taking the time to answer these questions!
Wow, there you have it. Some incredibly talented musicians, who are very self aware, and care a great deal about what they do. I love the new single, and will be suprised if it isn't a dancefloor smash hit. But, even besides that, the album has some great thought provoking tracks, songs which made me feel things that no album has done in a very long time.
Go and support some amazing artists! Pick up the new single off iTunes, and let's get them the attention that they deserve!
