I'll start off by saying this. The artist I am about to introduce to you is my one to watch in 2013. She's a lovely lady who goes by the name of Lemon, and she makes catchy, fun, sexy pop music with some urban edge.
I had the pleasure of having a chat over the phone with Lemon, and despite having far too much fun talking to her, still managed to get her to answer some questions for you lucky, lucky Popshade readers! Aren't I good to you?
Hi Lemon, could you tell our readers who you are, and what it is you do?
Well, I'm Lemon & I'm a singer-songwriter who creates music for people to enjoy! Music with serious vocals, serious choreography & a great show!
How would you describe your sound?
Gritty, poppy & definitely urban. I lived in Barbados for a while and the reggae and hip-hop beats definitely influenced me and found their way into my music. So, yeah, definitely elements of urban sounds, but still very traditionally poppy!
Who would you compare yourself to in the industry right now?
I wouldn't like to compare myself to anyone in the industry, as I'm trying to do my own thing, but I definitely have a lot of influences. Such as: Michael & Janet Jackson, Etta James, Ciara, Gwen Stefani, Sean Paul, Destiny's Child etc.
What can people expect if they come down to one of your shows?
Absolute Craziness! Crazy choreography, & massive vocals! They'll get to party hard, be a bit naughty, a bit sexy. And, by the end of the night they'll probably be up on the stage dancing with me too!
What's your favorite song you have written?
I'd say PUSSYDROP & Oh La La La. They're FUCKING LEMONY! They're both fun, a bit kooky & empowering! Something that seems to have been lost nowadays!
You talked about the single, "Oh La La La" there, anything else you want to say about it?
Well, it's been a big song for me! It's being played a heck of a lot in the gay scene, and is generally doing quite good things for me! There is also a verse on the song from my good friend SIM [MK1] who adds a lot to the song. I need to thank my Lemdrops (fans) for all their support. I'd be nowhere without them, and they are the best fans in the world!
Anything else you'd like to say?
I know I've already said it, but I have to say thankyou to everyone for all their support. I've been able to work with some amazing people because of the support of my Lemdrops. I'm hoping to bring a bit of REAL POP back to the masses! And to keep it real, I design my clothes, and have input on every part of my work. I will be in your town soon I'm sure! So, come down & have some LEMONY FUN!!!
I've got to give Lemon massive thanks for taking the time to answer these questions!
Lemon really is one of the nicest & sweetest artists I've had the pleasure of working with. She's also pretty damn talented too, if you hadn't already gathered from the stuff you've heard above! I wish her all the best in the future, and I really hope she does make it, because she really deserves it. I'm definitely a massive fan, and I think you should be by now too! So, why don't you go & be all social with Lemon at the following links!
