We're three months into 2015 now. We've heard loads of ace music, found loads of incredible new artists and overall had a poptastic new year.
The next lady we're about to introduce to you is responsible for our favourite tune of 2015 so far. Gia's latest single Only A Girl is everything that pop should be. Catchy, sultry, and with one hell of a hook. She was kind enough to answer a few questions for us, so we'll hand it over to the lovely lady..
Hey Gia, thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at Popshade, why don't you start by telling us a bit about who you are and what you do?
I am Gia! I'm an 18 year old musician.
Only A Girl is our favourite song of 2015 so far, we love everything about it! We obvs know what the song is about, but what does it mean to you?
It means a lot of different things to different people which is really cool! It's a song about sisterly bonding and female empowerment, but for myself personally it reflects my first relationship with a girl, and my first real romantic relationship as a young woman. It's my artistic expression of my sexuality and finding myself.
You've already worked with some pretty sick producers, but are there any out there that you'd just LOVE to work with?
SO many! I'm deep into Soundcloud and Hypem which is why it's so crazy to see my name in the charts on there because I really admire and adore some of the names that pop up alongside me! I love UZ ;) Sophie, Cyril Hahn, Diplo and some of the big pop producers like Max Martin. I really adore music so I can't wait to collaborate with everyone!
And what about artists? Who would be your dream collaboration?
I would love to collaborate with Nicki Minaj, she's extremely dope and always really inventive.
You're clearly quite a fashoinable lady, who are your style icons?
I've always loved really strong women who own their identity and take risks. I adore Grace Jones, and Kate Bush, though I'm not quite as theatrical as them. Like any 18 year old girl I adore Cara Delevingne and how she plays with tomboy style and cool silhouettes.
RIGHT, back on to the music, What's next following Loud and Only A Girl?
My EP! I'm working on it right now. Approaching the finishing stages. It's really really cool, and I think once everyone gets to hear it you'll have a better idea of who I am and what I do. Each song is a really cool mashup of genres and subcultures with big hooks. Americana, alternative R&B, trap and pop all blended. I'm very very excited.
And what can peeps expect if they come down to a Gia live show?
We're figuring that out now, conceptualizing the live show and rehearsing. It's gonna be very memorable and I actually play plenty of instruments: guitar, keys, wind instruments, so I'll be really happy to showcase that as well.
We're two months into 2015, what does the rest of the year hold?
My EP is first and foremost, I'm so ready for you guys to hear new music, and then more music videos and I'll be hitting the road so I'll get to see all you beautiful people who have been connecting with my music. I am really looking forward to the rest of the year. I'm gonna make you guys proud I promise! No slowing down, only speeding up ;).
And, finally, where can peeps find you?
We'd like to thank Gia for taking the time to answer these questions.
Well, there you have it - we're sure you'll agree that Only A Girl is HUGE. And we don't take it lightly when we say a song is our favourite. We genuinely think Gia could be a pop superstar over the next year or two, and it's all down to peeps like you getting involved.
So, whilst you wait in crazy anticipation for that EP to drop, make sure you follow her on all those links she just gave you above. We're a part of something big here guys.. get involved!
