If you talk to people about R&B nowadays, you tend to get one of two responses. Either a sigh from fans of true R&B, who have watched the genre fall apart over the past decade or so; and then clueless teenagers who think anything with a dance beat is classed as R&B.
Well, thankfully. There are a few people out there, keeping the spirit of true R&B alive, and even reinventing it. One of those people is the lovely Amy Steele. We sat down with the talented songstress and asked her a few questions, so let's see what she had to say...
Hey Amy, thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at Popshade! Why don't you tell people a bit about who you are and what you do?
Hey everyone! My name is Amy Steele and I am singer/ songwriter from London.
How would you describe your sound?
I like to mix my sound up from track to track, Alice my last single was so different to Eyes On You, so I wouldn’t describe my sound in any specific genre. I think that my voice is what ties everything I work on together
Your new single "Eyes On You" brings us vibes of some classic 90's R&B! But what does the song mean to you?
I love the message of that track, its romantic and summery, definitely a song for when you’re in love.
Also, how was it working with R&B superstar Mario?
He is amazingly talented! I loved the way our voices worked together; it was an honor to work with him!
So, what can people expect from your debut album?
I’m so excited to share what I’ve been working on! Good music I would say, this past year I’ve really grown as an artist and experimented a lot more with new sounds, so I can’t wait to put it all out there.
If you could pick any musician out there to work with, who would it be and why?
J Cole – he’s really doing his thing right now, his music is sick.
Finally, where can your fans find you?
My twitter is @amysteelemusic
And I have a couple of shows coming up you can find all the info on my facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/AmySteeleMusic
I'd like to thank Amy for taking the time to answer these questions.
I love Amy's sound and what she is doing with R&B at the minute. Really inventive, but classic at the same time. I really do wish Amy the best of luck, and I'm sure it's not long before she is a massive star! Check out her material, and let us know what you think.
