Chris Mann was a contestant on America's "The Voice". I never watched that programme what with being over here in the UK. But, a YouTube recommendation about a year ago sparked my interest in Mann. That was his cover of Kanye West's "Heartless". It was phenomenal. Admittedly, it was a bit of a rip-off of Kris Allen's version, but, Mann's operatic voice really stood out for me.
The few videos I saw of Mann on The Voice (curse you YouTube restrictions) had him singing pop songs in his own distinct, almost stolen from Il Divo sound. Basically, what I'm trying to say is almost everything this guy does is pure bliss. His debut album was just previewed and it's pretty damn good to say it's mostly covers. However, the lead single which happens to not be a cover, title track "Roads" is pretty damn haunting. I'm not quite sure how to describe it considering I'm used to reviewing pop, and this isn't pop. But, oh just listen to it will you. His voice is incredible. Hahah, voice, see what I did there?
I'll show myself out.
"Roads" is released on October 30th. It can be pre-ordered on iTunes now.
